There is almost always bruising following a liposuction procedure, as well as some discharge from the wounds. It will take several weeks before the swelling goes down completely, and even though you’ll return to work quickly it’s inadvisable to do serious physical activity until you are completely healed – four to six weeks later.

People who put on weight after liposuction often find that they gain weight in unexpected places, such as their arms or legs, which gives an odd look to their bodies. The reason for the interesting weight gain is that liposuction does not reset your body’s knowledge of where it last gained weight. That is to say, your body thinks that there is plenty of fat stored in your stomach, so it sends the weight to your back or arms instead. This makes sense biologically – your body thinks that it is distributing fat evenly and doesn’t recognize that you’ve stepped in and removed some of its evolutionary padding from your midsection.
